Gartner Features Modius in New Report on Data Center Infrastructure
Gartner features Modius OpenData in new report "DCIM: Going Beyond IT" (March 2010)
May 2010
Gartner research author, David Cappuccio, has published a new report on Data Center Infrastucture Management (DCIM) tools. Modius is pleased to be featured as one of the key vendors in this emerging market segment.
According to Cappuccio:
"DCIM tools are evolving rapidly and will become a key part of a data center manager's arsenal during the next few years, providing valuable data needed to report on and improve energy efficiencies, identify potential infrastructure trouble spots and increase the effectiveness of capacity planning. To take advantage of the benefits as they evolve, I&O leaders should begin the DCIM evaluation process in 2010 and 2011."
Cappuccio goes on to explain that a new DCIM product market is emerging, which is an intersection of IT systems performance management software and more traditional building management systems often used in facilities departments. DCIM takes funcitional aspects of each category in order to provide next-generation management capabilities for data center infrastructure, which range from inventory managment to change management to capacity planning and carbon footprint reporting.
Cappuccio refers to a number of key market drivers for the development and adoption of DCIM tools:
- Data center consolidation efforts
- Power and cooling issues
- Green IT and other executive-level efficiency initiatives
- Increased regulatory attention on energy consumption in data centers in the EU and US government agences
